About

My family mourned the day I cut my hair.

Maybe it’s because it was long and that is what is deemed beautiful.
Or my long hair could cover parts of myself which without, expose myself to the scrutiny of the world.

The problem here, lies with a girl who tries so hard to love what’s been given to her.
Yet efforts defeated by the disgusting relentless hatred born in herself for herself.
Others thoughts have not helped either.
One cannot truly be agreeable when you yourself are disagreeable too.
Disagree so much that at heart you are unsure the reflection you see is even your own.
So please audience/grab your phone

Bio

Kiara Sarusi is an undergraduate third year student currently studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts & Bachelor of Advanced Studies, majoring in Cultural and Gender Studies. She is an interdisciplinary artist whose work primarily focuses on the medium of photography where she creates abstract bodily form images and explores feminist themes. The materiality and relationship of the work to its audience is significant in Kiara’s work, as this dialogue creates the needed tension in which her works derive their readings of our implicit engagement in the objectification of women.
