About

Panache (2021) draws on the idea of the coming of the age narrative in a flamboyant and colourful setting. Creating a dream like scene, the environment encapsulates the pull between the freedom of young adult life and comfort of childhood. In our twenties we step into the adult world, going to pubs, living independently, earning our own money, and yet there is this sense of imposter syndrome. We are still growing into our adult selves. With the future being so uncertain there is comfort to be found in the past. In the silly and magical things that add a twinkle to a child’s eyes. It is this artists belief that embracing our inner child and knowing when to not take yourself so seriously is the key to enjoying the journey. Be colourful, be loud, and do everything with a little Panache.

Bio

Finishing up her final year in a Bachelor of Visual Arts at The University of Sydney (unceded Gadigal Land) Lucy Thurston majors in painting but enjoys dabbling in a variety of mediums. As an artist, she aims for her work to bring a sense of comfort, fun and nostalgia to the viewer. Like the illustrations from a beloved children’s book or a scene from your favourite film, Lucy intends for her art to provide an escape into a beautiful, silly scene.
